Oral health improves in Primary 1 pupils
The latest data from the National Dental Inspection Programme (NDIP) is released today. It shows a slight improvement in the oral health of primary 1 (P1) children in Scotland since 2012. with 68% having no obvious decay experience in 2014. This has improved from 45% when the NDIP programme started in 2003.
Children from most deprived areas have more experience of decay with only 53% having no obvious decay compared with 83% in the least deprived areas.
The mean number of decayed, missing and filled teeth continues to decline with the average falling to 1.27 teeth in 2014.
