The National Dental Inspection Programme reports on the oral health status of Primary 1 (P1) and Primary 7 (P7) children in Scotland. Annual reports on NDIP findings can be found on the Public Health Scotland website. Reports from prior to 2023 can be found here.
Data from the latest P7 survey shown in the figure below demonstrates an improvement in dental health from just 53% of P1 pupils being free of obvious tooth decay in 2005 to 82% in 2023.
Each NDIP report contains basic assessments for both year groups. Detailed assessments are provided for P1 and P7 children in alternate years.
