Childsmile is a national programme designed to improve the oral health of children in Scotland and reduce inequalities both in dental health and access to dental services.
The programme is funded by the Scottish Government has a number of elements:-
- A core programme
- Nursery and Schools programme
- Practice programme
The programme initially developed from two demonstration programmes which ran between 2006-8 before rolling out a fully integrated model. Since 2011, all elements have been delivered in all Health Board areas throughout Scotland.
