Recall of some GlucaGen Hypokits – MHRA Drug Alert EL (16)/A/12 – 6 September 2016

Posted by: Gregor Preston - Posted on:

Novo Nordisk Ltd. recently recalled seven batches of GlucaGen HypoKits due to a very small number of needles being detached from the syringe. It would not be possible to use a syringe with a detached needle which could cause a delay in emergency treatment of severe hypoglycaemia.

Those with a GlucaGen HypoKit from an affected batch are asked to return them to their supplier for a replacement. Suppliers of emergency medical drug boxes may already have been in contact with those dental practices they supply to arrange replacements.

Tayside Pharmaceuticals: A major supplier of emergency medical drug boxes to dental practices in Scotland, Tayside Pharmaceuticals, has advised Scottish Dental that the affected batch numbers cited by the MHRA equate to Tayside Pharmaceuticals Batch Nos: 745500 (expiry 30.08.17) and 746351 (expiry 30.10.17).
NB: Tayside Pharmaceuticals has already contacted all of the dental practices it supplies who were equipped with an affected batch. They have despatched replacement GlucaGen Hypokits with a request that affected syringes be returned to them with the paperwork supplied.
